Everybody Sing Along

The man stayed late again, at work. That was nice because I made a mess of paper things during the day whilst I was waiting around to go to work (Hells yes I scrapbook! I live in Utah, what do you think I do with my spare time). I was able to clean that, fold laundry and do a few other things. I rented a few movies on the way home. I am not afraid of “Independent Film” and most often seek them out, thus, the reason for this post. Last Days was one of these “indie films”. The cover had a look alike of Curt Cobain and it was “inspired” by his last days before he killed himself so of course I was ALL about renting it. Can I tell you how BAD this sucked? Seriously I could tell by the first 10 min. how bad this was going to be and yet I didn’t turn it off. It was like watching a train wreck, and there were no surviors. Can you judge a movie by the lead character in a slip dress? I say yes. By the time the other two males in the movie showed up, JUST to make out(WITH EACH OTHER) I wanted to stab my eyes out with a dull object, and then be pissed that this movie was going to be the last thing I saw with my TERRIBLE EYE SIGHT. Did I bother to mention that this movie was the suckiest suck suck that EVER sucked? You know I am the BIGGEST cheerleader for independent movies, and if they are about Rock n Roll I am SO on bored. That is why I am here to tell you about my Favorite Rock movies that RAWK hard core. Both Major release and Independent… In no particular order here they are:

  1. 24 Hour Party People-Indie Brit

This movie was amazing and had me at the beginning with the Happy Mondays only US hit “24 hour part people”. You literally are a character the just follows along the lead character on his journey managing Joy Division, the Happy Mondays. We watch the Manchester Music Movement unfold, from bands to clubs with a DJ. Bonus…LIVE PUNK FOOTAGE from Sex Pistols, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, New Order and Happy Mondays

  1. New York Doll- American Indie Documentary
This is me while watching this movie for the first time… “DO YOU KNOW WHO THAT IS??” and “OMGOSH DO YOU KNOW WHO THAT IS?” This movie is what happens when a rock star finds stardom, looses stardom, finds drinking, finds religion, and finds band again. This movie is worth seeing...if you can't rent it BUY it, if you can't buy it you can barrow my copy and then you will buy it. Bonus Material, Interview with Morrissey, Chrissy Hynde, Iggy pop, Clem Burke(Blondie), Mick Jones(the Clash)...and The New York Dolls.

3. High Fidelity-American

Character Rob Gordon(John Cusack) Relates all of his relationships to his top ten favorite bands. He is THE Critic of all things music, and proves it with constant witty conversations to his employees(oh, did i mention he owns his own music store?). Bonus Material(besides John Cusack) Jack Black in every scene he is in, Cameo with Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen, and use of the following names "Kathleen Turner Overdrive, Barry Jive and the Uptown Five, and Sonic Death Monkey". By the by, read the book, It has 10 times more music references and it's british so fun when you run across the work Arse.

4) School Of Rock-American

Dewey is a the Ultimate music man with a dream to win the "Battle of the Bands". He get booted from the band and is about to get booted from his pad when the option to be a "temp" other wise known as a sub-teacher at a private school comes up he jumps. It is there he realizes that the kids at not only smart but so talented and OHHHHH the shanangans that insues. Bonus...Again I am going with Jack Black, I am going with the black board lesson in Rock n Roll, and the Childran who were not actors, but actual musicans.

I leave you with this as I leave. "We are going to ROLL tonight to the Guitar bite, and for those of you about to ROCK we SALUTE you"
